This mode is used to define how the weighting should be assigned to the current selection or the mesh as a whole.

Adds the weighting defined by the Strength setting to the existing weighting. Negative Strength values can be used to reduce the weighting values.

Subtracts the weighting defined by the Strength setting from the existing weighting. Negative values can be used to reverse the behavior.

This option smoothes the weightings’ edges. Use a negative Strength value to sharpen the weighting differences between selected points. Use the Apply All button to sharpen or smooth the weighting as a whole. Apply Selected will cause only currently selected elements to be affected.

This option can be used to expand weighted regions. To expand the weighting areas, assign this mode either to selected elements or to the entire mesh. The effect can be compared to ink being absorbed by a paper towel. Use a negative Strength value to reduce the weighting region correspondingly.

In this mode, the value of an existing weighting can be increased relatively.

In this mode, values of painted weighting can be re-assigned. A curve will be displayed with which the assignment can be made. This is like a gradation curve in Photoshop: If the curve progresses downwards slightly, a value that was originally 59%, for example, will only be weighted with 40% after it was repainted, without modifying the values for 100% or 0%.

With this mode, unwanted weighting can easily be reset to 0%.

Values that are less than those defined by the Strength setting will be zeroed out. Note that this function affects the overall weighting of each point and not the value of a specific joint (a point can be affected by multiple joints).

This mode allows you to round weight values to the nearest increment (up or down). For example, if a point is influenced by a joint at 33% and another at 67% (total weight 100%), rounding to 10 will cause the first joint to be set at 30% and the second joint at 70%. Both were rounded to the closest increment of 10 and provide much cleaner values to work with and identify.

This option attempts to keep the total weight of each point at 100% when you apply weighting. For example, if you reduce a joint's influence on a point using the Subtract mode, the erased weighting is added back to the other joints that influence the point to keep the point’s total weight at 100%. However, if there are no other joints that influence the point, then the weighting cannot be added back and the joint’s total weight cannot be kept at 100%.

If the option is enabled and a joint already influences a point at 100%, its weight will be redistributed accordingly if adding weight to another joint influencing the same point would cause the overall weighting to exceed 100% total value.

Enable this option to link the Dropper mode of the Weight Tool to the Weight Manager, so it also picks weights for the Weight Manager. When picking weights with the Weight Tool and this option enabled, it will assign the picked value to the Strength parameter of the Weight Manager as well.

If Clamp Low is enabled, you can use the Lower setting to specify the minimum amount of weight that can be assigned, regardless of the Strength value or, for example, how often you subtract weighting from a point in Subtract mode.

If Auto Normalize is disabled in the Weight tool or Weight Manager, a point's total weight can, in some cases, exceed 100%. For example, if the point is influenced by two or more joints, it is possible that their values added together are greater than 100%|.

Clicking the Normalize button normalizes the weights for all Weight tags that are linked to the selected joint or object. In other words, the joints still affect the mesh in the same way but now no point has a total weight of more than 100%.

This option will apply automatic mirroring as well, based on the mirror space and search modes selected, but will search both sides of the mirror plane for matches to apply on either sides of the plane at the same time. In essence, missing weights and discrepancies from either sides will be corrected and applied simultaneously to provide an even and mirrored weighting automatically.

Will apply an automatic mirroring of the joint weights based on the mirror space and search modes defined in the Mirror section of the Options tab of the Weight Manager. Select all the joints to mirror before applying the command, the tool will try to mirror all the joint weights at once. Note that the mirror command will both find mirror matches of independent joints, based on your selection, and mirror weights placed on the mirror axis (spine joints that need to mirror themselves, for example).

Select the desired direction of the mirroring by using either command.

Flips the weight values of the selected joint to the other side of the mesh based on the selected axis. You can either click directly on the left part of the button to flip the weights, click and hold the button or click on the arrow icon on the right side of the button to expand a drop-down menu and select your axis of choice.
