In the preferences you will, for example, find the default settings for the Sketch material’s preview. If you want the preview to display, say, a torus by default instead of a sphere, simply select the new shape. Last but no least, the preferences dialog is also home to some auto options. For example, there’s an option to automatically add a new Sketch material each time you add a Sketch Style tag. These auto options usually help, but depending on how you like to work, they may become annoying at times. Disable them if that’s the case.

Choose Edit / Preferences and in the preferences dialog that appears, click on Sketch and Toon or Defaults just below it.
